Dr. Seth Rayburn has practiced surgery in Athens since 2004. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.
Dr. Rayburn grew up in Fayette, Alabama. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 1995, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in chemistry and a minor in music performance. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 1999.
After earning his medical degree, Dr. Rayburn went on to complete his General Surgery residency at the University of South Alabama Hospital system, serving as Chief Resident and clinical instructor. During his tenure at South Alabama, Dr. Rayburn published in national journals related to both general and plastic surgery. Following his surgical training, he joined Dr. Paul Noel in Athens in 2004 and began Surgical Services of Athens. He is on staff at ALH where he has served in various clinical and volunteer positions over the years. He was awarded the 2024 Physician of the Year, as voted by the staff of Athens-Limestone Hospital.
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Rayburn enjoys traveling with his family, photography and Photoshop, and playing musical instruments, including saxophone and piano. He is known for attempting to run for exercise as well and has arrived at the conclusion that he greatly prefers running in the cold weather instead of in the heat.
