Dr. Cassidy J. Koonce has practiced surgery in Athens since 2015. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.
Dr. Koonce grew up in Greenhill, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama majoring in biological sciences, and his Master’s degree in microbiology from the University of Alabama. He next received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 2010. He then completed General Surgery residency at the University of South Alabama Hospital System where he was appointed Chief Resident. He is a proud recipient of the Charles B. Rodning Resident of the Year Award, which is the highest award bestowed to a University of South Alabama surgery resident.
Dr. Koonce has presented at multiple scientific forums and published in multiple national journals. He joined Drs. Noel and Rayburn in 2015.
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Koonce enjoys spending time with his family and outdoor activities. Dr. Koonce is also an avid musician accomplished on violin / fiddle and guitar. He is a former winner of the Kentucky State Fiddle Championship and has played with multiple musicians throughout the United States.
